Description
Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill is a flowable, bulk-fill composite for posterior restorations. It can be placed in 4 mm increments and contains a highly reactive light initiator. This composite offers an extended working time, low shrinkage stress and excellent radiopacity. Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill is a sculptable, bulk-fill composite for posterior restorations, with excellent radiopacity, low shrinkage stress and can be placed in 4 mm increments.
Clinical Evaluation Protocol
A total of 92 Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations were placed between March and September 2017. The restorations were placed in 61 molar and 31 premolar teeth. The classification of restorations was 15 Class I and 77 Class II restorations.
Results at One Year:
Fifteen restorations (16% of the total number of restorations placed) had been recalled by March 2018 and were evaluated in the following areas: esthetics, resistance to fracture/chipping, resistance to marginal discoloration, wear resistance and lack of postoperative sensitivity. Restorations were evaluated on a 1-5 rating scale: 1 = poor, 2 = fair, 3 = good, 4 = very good, 5 = excellent.
Esthetics
Fourteen of 15 Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations received an excellent rating of five for esthetics (Figure 3). One restoration that was perceived to look slightly grey received a rating of 4.
Resistance to Marginal Discoloration
All 15 Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations received an excellent rating of five for resistance to marginal discoloration (Figure 3).
Thirteen of fifteen Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations (87% of recalled restorations) received a rating of 5 (Figure 3). One Class II MOD restoration chipped distally and was repaired, and one other Class II MOD restoration fractured and was replaced.
Wear Resistance
The wear resistance of the recalled Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations was excellent, with all receiving an excellent rating of 5 (Figure 3).
Lack of Postoperative Sensitivity
All 15 Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations received a rating of 5 (Figure 3). There were no reports of sensitivity.
Conclusion:
At the one-year recall, the clinical performance of recalled Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill with Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations was exceptional. Esthetics, resistance to wear, lack of postoperative sensitivity and resistance to marginal discoloration were excellent. Resistance to chipping or fractures was good overall, while two restorations needed to be repaired/replaced.
