What are some clinical considerations in capturing digital impressions?

The most important factor is clear visualization of your margin. The intraoral scanner can only capture what you show it. Properly managing the tissue and exposing the margin readily capture clear accurate images. The most effective way to accomplish this is by placing supragingival margins. In many cases, the margins must be placed subgingivally and tissue management becomes important. Improved visualization can be accomplished by removing soft tissue with a laser or retracting tissue away from the margin using gingival retraction paste (Traxodent® Hemodent™ Paste Retraction System, Premier Dental Products Co.; Hemostasyl, Kerr Corporation; Expasyl® Temporary Gingival Retraction System, Kerr Corporation) or packing cord.
