Is there anything I can do to make mandibular block anesthesia less painful for my patients?

There is a new product called Onset (Onpharma) that raises the pH of lidocaine from it’s acidic 3.5 pH to a more physiologic level. This buffering significantly decreases the pain associated with mandibular block injections. The product is a sterile sodium bicarbonate solution that is injected into a standard carpule with a unique mixing pen delivery system. The pen can be loaded at the beginning of the day and has enough material to add to nine carpules. Clinical Evaluators reported good anesthesia with less pain for patients.
