Do self-adhesive resin cements have bond strengths as high as traditional esthetic resin cements?
Most self-adhesive resin cements do not have bonds to tooth structure that are as high as resin cements with a separate bonding agent. They are convenient, easy to use, and do bond to dentin and enamel but usually not as high as esthetic resin cements. Light cure the margins for a higher bond strength. Restorations that are non-retentive or are in highly esthetic areas, such as ceramic veneers, should still be bonded with traditional “esthetic” resin cements [Variolink II (Ivoclar Vivadent)].
