Are the properties of extended storage alginates comparable to traditional alginates?

Yes and no. In a study recently conducted by researchers at THE DENTAL ADVISOR Biomaterials Research Center, three extended storage alginates [Alginmax (Major USA); Hydrogum5 (Zhermack); Kromopan 100 (Kromopan USA)] were compared to a traditional alginate material [Jeltrate Plus (DENTSPLY Caulk)]. The elastic recovery of the extended storage alginates was about the same as a traditional alginate. The tear energy of the extended storage alginates was higher than that of the traditional one, and the flexibility was less than that of the traditional alginate.
