Which technique is better for preparing a ceramic surface for repair – microabrasion or etching with hydrofluoric acid gel?

Each technique works well, but do not use both techniques together. Here are recommended steps:

  • Prepare the fractured area of the restoration with a MicroEtcher IIA (Danville Materials) or hydrofluoric acid gel (Pulpdent Corporation). If using the HF gel, carefully rinse the gel and dry.
  • Apply a silane primer [Clearfil Silane Kit (Kuraray America)].
  • Apply an unfilled resin.
  • Apply composite.
