I have read that posts can weaken teeth, but I still like to use them in severely broken down teeth. Are there any posts that don’t weaken teeth that you would recommend using?

Traditional cylindrical posts can weaken teeth because they remove root structure at the smaller, apical end of the root. This creates stress concentrations and increases the chance of root fractrure. Bonded, tapered posts that do not remove as much tooth structure upon preparation of the post space could decrease stress at the root. ParaPost Taper Lux (Coltene Whaledent, Inc.) is a tapered, glass-fiber post that can be cemented with light-, dual-, or self-cured resin cement. It has a retentive head, comes in four sizes and can be used with any resin cement or resin core material. ParaPost Taper Lux achieved the highest rating by THE DENTAL ADVISOR.
