How can dental professionals protect themselves from future contact dermatitis and other hypersensitivity reactions?

Diagnosis of contact dermatitis and other hypersensitivity reactions has become much more attainable, and thus, the number of people with these conditions has increased greatly. With regard to the latex allergy, as a result of better qualitative and quantitative information, manufacturers are now required by law to better purify their latex products. This includes utilization of additional water-rinse procedures, in order to remove water-soluble latex proteins and water-soluble chemicals. All manufacturers are required to adhere to the applicable Food and Drug Administration regulations that went into effect in the Fall of 1997.
