Despite strict oral hygiene instructions to all of my patients, many still have decalcification areas in the vicinity of their orthodontic brackets after their orthodontic treatment is complete. Are there any products available that could help with this problem?

There is a new product specifically designed to avoid this type of problem. Ortho Coat (Pulpdent Corp.) is a fluoride-releasing, light-cured resin that is used to coat orthodontic brackets and surrounding enamel. This product is designed to be syringed into the area of the bracket. It helps prevent bacteria accumulation and decay formation in the immediate area of the brackets and aids in decreasing the sharp edges of brackets, eliminating the need for wax. The resin can be light-cured in 20 seconds using a standard halogen light.
