Lecture Topics

The Speakers’ Bureau offers continuing education courses on a wide variety of topics for dentists, hygienists, assistants, lab technicians, and office teams. Each topic can be 1-2 hour, half-day and full-day lectures. John M. Powers, PhD graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in chemistry in 1967 and a Ph.D. in dental materials and mechanical engineering in 1972. He received an honorary Ph.D. from the Nippon Dental University in 2011. He received the E.B. Clark Award from the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry in 2012. He received the 2013 IADR Distinguished Scientist – Wilmer Souder Award. Dr. Powers is Senior Editor of THE DENTAL ADVISOR and Clinical Professor of Oral Biomaterials, Department of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. Dr. Powers has authored more than 1000 scientific articles, abstracts, books, and chapters. He is co-author of the textbook, Dental Materials – Properties and Manipulation, and co-editor of Craig’s Restorative Dental Materials and Esthetic Color Training in Dentistry. He serves on the editorial boards of many dental journals. He has given numerous scientific and professional presentations in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Sabiha S. Bunek is Editor-in-Chief of THE DENTAL ADVISOR, leading a team of researchers and clinicians in reporting evidence-based clinical and laboratory properties of dental products and equipment. As a principal partner and CEO of THE DENTAL ADVISOR, she is leading future generations in connecting science and clinical practice. Dr. Bunek was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and earned her D.D.S. from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (GO BLUE!).

Dr. Bunek lectures on topics related to adhesives, ceramics, cementation, and CAD/CAM technology.  She is a published author and has been nationally recognized by Dental Products Report, who named her one of the top 25 Women in Dentistry in the areas of research and education. Dr. Bunek currently serves on the Executive Board of Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD) and is a visiting faculty for the Dawson Academy. She maintains a full-time practice in Ann Arbor, Michigan, focusing on esthetic and comprehensive restorative dentistry.

Dr. Bunek received his Bachelor of Science, Doctor of Dental Surgery, and Master’s degree in Periodontics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Bunek is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and certified in IV Sedation. He is a past President of the Bunting Periodontal Study Club, and an active member in many dental associations. In addition to his commitment to attending continuing education courses, Dr. Bunek is also an educator, lecturing nationally to other clinicians on advancements in periodontics and dental implants. He is an active reviewer for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry and sits on the Editorial Board for the Dental Advisor. Throughout his time at University of Michigan, Dr. Bunek received numerous accolades recognizing his passion and commitment to patient care and excellence in periodontics/implantology including the Sigurd P. Ramfjord Award, Kramer Scholar finalist, Billy A. Smith Patient Rapport Award, and the Russell W. Bunting Award. Dr. Bunek is originally from Lake Leelanau, Michigan and currently resides in Ann Arbor with his wife Sabiha, a local dentist, and two kids, Renna and Faris. In his spare time you can find Dr. Bunek attending most Michigan College sporting events, traveling with his family or on the golf course.

Dr. Molinari received a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He was a full-time faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry for 32 years, where he served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Molinari is now Director of Infection Control at THE DENTAL ADVISOR. He has published over 300 scientific articles, text chapters, and abstracts in the areas of microbiology and immunology, and lectures nationally and internationally on infectious diseases and infection control.  Dr. Molinari is co-author of the text Cottone’s Practical Infection Control in Dentistry. His activities also include serving as a consultant for the CDC, ADA Council on Scientific Affairs, Council on Dental Practice, and Detroit hospitals in the areas of infectious disease and infection control. Dr. Molinari also was appointed and served as Chair-man of the State of Michigan Governor’s Risk Reduction and AIDS Policy Commission. He has been the infection control section editor for The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry and a member of the Editorial Board for The Journal of the American Dental Association.
