  • “Smaller applicator tips are needed.”

Description

ExciTE is a 5th-generation, alcohol-based enamel and dentin bonding system for bonding of direct and indirect restorations. ExciTE is newly formulated to contain two reactive photo-initiators, camphorquinone and acylphosphine-oxide. These initiators cover the spectral output of a variety of different light sources including halogen, laser, plasma ARC, and LED. A 10-second cure is sufficient with most lights but may vary. Excite has a low film thickness and only requires one coat. The bond strength tested by THE DENTAL ADVISOR was 22.3 MPa to enamel and 27.8 MPa to dentin. The ExciTE Single Dose introductory kit evaluated contains 50, 0.1-g vessels of Excite, 2 g of etchant, and 5 finger clips to hold the single-dose vessels. Excite is also available in a 5-g bottle. Twenty-two consultants evaluated ExciTE in 610 clinical applications. This product received a 91% clinical rating.

Suggested Retail Cost

  • $165.99/two, 5 ml bottle refills
    $99.99/50, 0.1 ml unit-doses

Product Features

The viscosity of ExciTE was rated excellent - it flows well to produce a thin coat on tooth structure. A thin coat is especially important for indirect restorations. Only one coat is required to produce a readily visible, glossy surface on the tooth. Lack of post-operative sensitivity rated very good. Compatibility with various light sources is a positive feature of ExciTE, allowing for shorter curing times depending on the light used. While consultants rated the bonding agent very highly, the delivery system received lower ratings. The vessel containing the bonding agent was easy to use with adequate material; however, most consultants found the applicator brush to be too large for small, conservative preparations. Also, when the brush is bent, it cannot be reinserted into the vessel unless it is straightened. Sixty-eight percent of consultants indicated that they would purchase ExciTE Single Dose; 72% would recommend it.
