Description

AdheSE One VivaPen is a single-component (7th-generation), self-etching, light-cured, filled adhesive for enamel and dentin bonding of composite restorations. This bonding agent comes in a unique, pen-like dispenser, VivaPen, with disposable microtipped cannulas. The VivaPen enables AdheSE One to be applied directly to the preparation, saving time and material. To activate VivaPen, click the button several times to wet the brush with AdheSE One. This wet brush is applied directly to the cavity preparation, starting with the enamel and moving onto the dentin for a total time of no less than 30 seconds. A strong stream of air is then used to disperse excess amounts of AdheSE One. The bonding agent is then light cured for 10 seconds with at least a 500 mW/cm2 curing light. The material can be stored at room temperature. The VivaPen can be surface disinfected or covered with plastic sleeves; it is reused by adding a new brush cannula for each patient. The refill kit evaluated contains a 2-ml VivaPen filled with AdheSE One, 80 VivaPen brush cannulas, 10 VivaPen Sleeves, and technical literature/instructions. AdheSE One was evaluated by 28 clinical consultants to bond and restore over 750 teeth. This product received a 96% clinical rating.

Product Features

AdheSE One and the VivaPen dispensing system received excellent marks for ease and convenience of dispensing. In addition, the overall time required for bonding procedures is quicker than many 7th-generation bonding agents. AdheSE One flows well to coat the tooth surfaces, and the microtipped cannula is useful in all sizes of preparations. The black plastic VivaPen does not allow the user to see the volume of liquid remaining, and several consultants noted they would like some type of indicator or window to show when the contents are getting low. Lack of postoperative sensitivity was reported as favorable, and odor and taste were not objectionable. Eighty-two percent of consultants reported that good results from clinical research would encourage them to purchase this product. Sixty-eight percent preferred disinfecting wipe/spray as opposed to the use of a protective sleeve to prevent cross-contamination. Eighty-nine percent of consultants found AdheSE One to be equivalent to or better than their current bond agent; 75% would switch to AdheSE One and 71% would recommend it to a colleague.

Clinical Tips

  • Activate material onto brush head before entering preparation so you can see how much material is going onto brush.
  • Have the assistant click the button on VivaPen a couple of times before handing it to the doctor.
  • Bend or swivel the brush head to reach posterior preparations and improve access.
  • AdheSE One is not indicated for use with dual- or self-cured composites.
  • As with any resin material, avoid use in conjunction with materials containing eugenol or clove oil.
