Description

RelyX Ultimate is an adhesive resin cement used in combination with Scotchbond Universal Adhesive. It is dual curing and supplied in an automix syringe. It is used for the adhesive cementation of indirect restorations and is available in shades A1/Light, A3Opaque/Yellow Opaque, B0.5/White, and Translucent. The cement can be used either in a “total etch” or “self-etch” procedure. RelyX Ultimate, in combination with Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, is indicated for the final cementation of all ceramic, resin nano ceramics, composite, and metal restorations, including inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, Maryland bridges, veneers, and posts. Scotchbond Universal Adhesive is applied to the tooth and also to the internal aspect of the restoration. No additional silane or primer is needed for the restorative material. The cement contains a component that acts as a dual-cure activator for the adhesive. Working time is 2:30. Light-curing time is 20 seconds per surface, and self-curing time is six minutes. The Introductory Kit contains four, 8.5 g syringes of cement with an assortment of mixing tips and intraoral tips; 5 mL of adhesive; 3 mL of etchant; accessories; complete instructions; and a laminated instruction booklet in a plastic carrying case. Try-in pastes are available separately. RelyX Ultimate was evaluated by 36 consultants in 962 uses. It received a 96% clinical rating.

Product Features

RelyX Ultimate is a versatile adhesive resin cement system compatible with all restorative materials. The kit contains everything the clinician needs to complete a cementation procedure. Having a system that uses one liquid to treat dentin, enamel and all restorative materials greatly simplifies the clinical procedure. Consultants noted that this simplified system decreases the chance for error or misuse of products. The viscosity of the cement was rated excellent, allowing complete seating of restorations without being too runny. The four cement shades were considered adequate for most cases. Dentists who plan to use this kit for esthetic restorations should consider ordering the try-in pastes. Cement dispenses through the mixing tip in a uniform consistency. The variety of tips included in the kit satisfies the requirements for application of cement into the restoration, onto the tooth or in a post space. Excess cement can be removed during the gel phase of self-curing. Alternatively, tack curing for 1-2 seconds allows immediate removal of excess cement. Once fully hardened, removal of excess is difficult. Sixty-seven percent of consultants found RelyX Ultimate to be better than their current adhesive resin cement, and 31% found it to be equivalent. Eighty-nine percent would switch to RelyX Ultimate, and 100% of consultants would recommend it to a colleague.

Clinical Tips

  • Use the cement within six months of removing it from its foil wrapper.

  • Store at room temperature.

  • After treating the restoration with Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, shield it from light until the cement is applied.
