John O. Burgess, DDS, MS
Dr. Burgess is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas, earning is MS in Biomedical Sciences, and Emory University School of Dentistry, earning his DDS. He completed a one year General Practice Residency and a two-year General Dentistry Residency. Currently, he is the Assistant Dean for Clinical Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a consultant to the American Dental Association's Council on Scientific Affairs, and a member of two ADA MD 156 committees on specification development for materials and devices.
Dr. Burgess was Professor and Chairman of Operative Dentistry and Biomaterials as well as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Research at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-School of Dentistry, as well as a military consultant in general dentistry to the Air Force Surgeon General.
Dr. Burgess received certification from the American Board of Dentistry and is a diplomat of the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry. He is a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, The Academy of Restorative Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Association for Dental Research, and the Academy of Operative Dentistry. He is also a fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Burgess is a member of the Advisory Board for THE DENTAL ADVISOR and the Editorial Board for Inside Dentistry, is active in clinical evaluations of dental materials and is an investigator on clinical protocols evaluating adhesives, ceramic restoratives, fluoride releasing materials, posterior composites, impression materials, and bleaching agents. A prolific researcher, he has published more than 300 articles, abstracts and textbook chapters, was Chair of the Biomaterials Section of the American Association for Dental Schools and has served on the Executive Board for the American Association for Dental Research. He lectures extensively nationally and internationally and has presented more than 600 continuing education courses.
Dr. Burgess lives in Birmingham, Alabama with his wife, Patricia.

John A. Molinari, PhD
Dr. Molinari is a graduate of St. Vincent College, earning a BA in Biology, and of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, earning a PhD in Microbiology. He is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, and consults for hospitals in the Detroit area as well as the American Dental Association, and Center for Disease Control in the areas of infectious disease and infection control.
Dr. Molinari served as Project Coordinator for the governmental Health Resources and Services Administration Task Force on AIDS and Dental Education, Chairman of the American Association of Dental Schools Curriculum Advisory Committee on Blood-borne Infectious Diseases, and Chairman of the Organization for Safety of Asepsis Procedures (OSAP). He continues to serve as a board member of the OSAP Foundation.
Dr. Molinari is the Infection Control Section Editor of The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, and has been a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of the American Dental Association. He has published over 300 scientific articles, text chapters and abstracts on Microbiology and Immunology, and is a co-author of Practical Infection Control in Dentistry. He has lectured nationally and internationally on infectious diseases and dental asepsis.
In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Molinari has been inducted as an honorary member of The Michigan Dental Association, The International College of Dentists, The American College of Dentists, and served as Chairman of the State of Michigan Governor's Risk Reduction and AIDS Policy Commission.
Frederick A. Rueggeberg DDS, MS
Fred Rueggeberg received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Delaware in 1974 and received his D.D.S. from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1979. After completing a GPR at The Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington, DE, and associating with another private practitioner, Dr. Rueggeberg opened his own practice in Seaford, DE. He was awarded a Master’s Degree in Biomaterials Science in 1987 by the University of Michigan. Fred then joined the faculty at The Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, where he is a tenured Professor and Section Director of Dental Materials in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation. For 16 years, Fred has published extensively on the topics of light-curing units and photo-activated resin-based restorative materials. He received NIH funding (First Award) and continues to perform extensive developmental work for dental manufacturers. He has over 80 publications in peer-reviewed dental research journals and is an author or co-author of 78 abstracts. Dr. Rueggeberg participates extensively in continuing education including many hands-on seminars.
Edward J. Swift, DDS, MS
Dr. Swift is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, earning a DMD, and the University of Iowa, earning a Masters Degree in Operative Dentistry. He taught at the University of Mississippi and the University of Iowa. Currently, he is Professor and Chair of the Department of Operative Dentistry at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is actively involved in dental materials research, particularly in the area of dentin bonding and other aspects of adhesive and esthetic dentistry, and practices restorative and esthetic dentistry.
Dr. Swift is a member the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, and the International Association for Dental Research. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the Academy of Dental Materials serves as a member of the DENTSPLY Corporate Education Advisory Board.
Dr. Swift serves on the Editorial Board of THE DENTAL ADVISOR, Operative Dentistry, American Journal of Dentistry, Practical Procedures and Aesthetic Dentistry, is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, and provides editorial review for the Journal of the American Dental Association, Journal of Dental Research, and Dental Materials.
He has published over 200 journal articles, written 12 textbook chapters, and presented scientific papers and continuing education courses nationally and internationally. He has been an invited speaker for the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and has been recognized as a "Leader in Continuing Education" by Dentistry Today.
Charles W. Wakefield, DDS
Dr. Wakefield is a graduate of the University of California- Los Angeles School of Dentistry, earning his DDS. He served in the U. S. Army Dental Corps, where he completed a two-year Advanced General Dentistry Residency at Fort Knox, Kentucky and served a two-year tour as an Exchange Officer with the British Army, Royal Army Dental Corps, in London, England.
Dr. Wakefield served as Director of the one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the two-year AEGD program at Fort Hood, Texas. He also served as the Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program and Director of the Division of Operative Dentistry at the College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, from 1993 to 1995. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of General Dentistry, Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program at Baylor College of Dentistry, Texas A & M Health Science Center, Dallas, Texas, and a Consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, American Dental Association.
Dr. Wakefield is a Diplomat of both the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry and the American Board of General Dentistry. He has served as an Examiner on both the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry and the American Board of General Dentistry. Having been awarded a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, he is also a Fellow in the American and International Colleges of Dentists and holds the Surgeon General's "A" Designator.
